A student permit in India divided into two categories, e-Student Visa and e-Student-X Visa:

1. e-Student Visa-For full-time study in recognized educational institutions covers up to 5 years

2. e-Student-X Visa-For short-term studies, typically less than 6 months, or for students who need to attend language or vocational courses.

Application Process

1.Receive Admission Documents
Admission to an Institution: Ensure the institution is recognized by regulatory bodies like UGC or AICTE.

2.Prepare the Required Documents.


Passport (valid for 6 months)
Visa form, photographs

3.Admission lette

4.Proof of funds

5.Medical certificate

6.Police Clearance

7.Sponsor ID & Sponsor letter

8.Birth Certificate

9.Letter of No Objection -NOC

10.Visa fee Tsh 215,000

3.Submit the Application
Submit the application to the nearest Indian embassy or consulate. Processing Time: Processing Time-Typically, 1-2 days.
4.Receive Your Visa and Travel to India
Once your application is approved you will receive Student Visa (S-Visa) for full-time courses, valid for up to 5 years (extendable)
5.Residence Permit for Students (After Arrival in India)
Report to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) or Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) within 14 days if staying longer than 180 days.
Police verification may be required.

6. Validity and Renewal
Extending the Visa: If the course exceeds the initial visa period, apply for an extension at the FRRO/FRO with relevant documentation

7. Departure from India
Fulfil FRRO/FRO registration requirements before leaving. After completing your studies, you can return home or apply for another visa if staying for work or other purposes.
