General Entry Qualifications for Bachelor Programs in Tanzania
In Tanzania, the general entry qualifications for bachelor’s degree programs are established by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU). These qualifications are categorized into two main entry pathways: Direct Entry and Equivalent Entry.
1. Direct Entry Qualifications
For Form Six (ACSEE) Graduates: A minimum of two principal passes with a total of at least 4.0 points. The calculation of points is based on the TCU's grading system, where: A = 5 points B = 4 points C = 3 points D = 2 points E = 1 point For example, a candidate with grades B and C would have a total of 7 points, meeting the minimum requirement.
2. Equivalent Entry Qualifications
For Diploma Holders: An Ordinary Diploma (NTA Level 6) or its equivalent, with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0. Additionally, applicants must have at least four passes ('D' grades or higher) in non-religious subjects at the Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) level.
3. For Foundation Program Completers
Successful completion of a recognized foundation program with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Similar to diploma holders, at least four passes in non-religious subjects at the CSEE level are required.
4. Equivalent Qualifications
Candidates who do not have conventional A-Level qualifications may still qualify through recognized equivalent qualifications, such as diplomas or international qualifications (e.g., IB, Cambridge A Levels).
5. Special Requirements
Some programs may have specific entry requirements beyond the general qualifications. For example, courses in health sciences may require specific subjects like Biology or Chemistry at A-Level.
6. Age Limit
Candidates should typically be within a certain age limit (often not above 25 years), although institutions may have varying criteria.
