In Canada, a student permit is required for international students planning to study for more than six months. There are two main types:

2. Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) – Required for students from certain countries to enter Canada.

Application Process

1.Required Documents for Applying for Admission to Canadian Institutions

Before applying for a student permit, you must first secure admission to a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada. Here are the required documents:

Valid Passport
Academic Transcript & Certificates
IELTS/Toefil
Statement of Purpose
Letter of Recommendation
Resume (Cv)
Application fee $500

Therefore: Obtain a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada.

2.Prepare the Required Documents for Visa Application

1. Valid Passport (should be valid for the duration of the study).

2. Completed Study Permit Application Form (IMM 1294).

3. Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from a DLI.

4. Proof of Financial Support

5. Medical Examination Report

6. Police Clearance Certificate (if required).

7. Sponsor ID & Sponsorship Letter

8. Biometric Information

9. Visa Processing Fee – CAD 185 (approximately TZS 375,000).

3.Submit the Application

Apply online through the IRCC New portal

Processing Time: Typically 8-12 weeks, but may vary by country.

4 .Receive Your Student Visa and Travel to Canada

If approved, you will receive:

Student Permit Approval Letter (to present on arrival).

Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or eTA, if applicable.

Travel to Canada before your course starts

5.Post-Arrival Requirements (Study Permit Conditions)

Report to the DLI upon arrival.

If studying for more than six months, you must apply for a Social Insurance Number (SIN) to work on or off-campus.

6. Validity and Renewal

A student permit is valid for the length of the course plus 90 days.

If your studies extend beyond the permit duration, apply for an extension through the IRCC portal before it expires.

7. Departure from Canada

If you complete your studies, you must leave Canada unless you apply for:

Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) (if eligible).

Permanent Residency (PR) through programs like Express Entry.
